In some cases, the HVAC air handler will have a small circuit-breaker panel near it with a switch that can disconnect the power to the unit. If not, it’s sometimes necessary to turn off the breaker supplying the air handler’s power from your home’s central electrical panel. It’s essential for the HVAC technician to be completely sure that the power’s off, however, because the next step involves accessing the blower motor’s wiring.
Open the Air Handler Cover
The next step is to find and open the access panel on the air handler itself. This makes it possible to access the power wires of the blower motor itself. Most modern HVAC systems feature three- or four-speed blower motors. Each speed has its own power supply wire. The wire that you connect to the power source sets the speed for the motor. This should not be done unless you are a trained HVAC technician.
