What To Do If My Heating System Keeps Turning Off

Replace the battery, if applicable, and with the faceplate off, clean the unit, including cleaning dust out between the contacts. If that does not work, test a replacement thermostat after considering the next issue.

Your thermostat can also be unreliable if it is misplaced. Poor positioning can mean that your thermostat is being affected by sunlight or just that it is not centrally located to your home. If your thermostat needs to be moved, it is best to seek professional assistance.

Oversized Furnace

It is important to size a furnace to its specific home. If your furnace was purchased and installed by the last homeowner rather than a pro, it is possible that the unit is too big. The home will heat quickly in this case, but that short cycle will create undue stress on the furnace and cause it not to last as long as it would in an ideal scenario.
