Do You Need an Air Purifier or Dehumidifier?
You may be considering improving the air in your home because of a new baby or personal health reasons. Air purifiers and dehumidifiers can benefit your household in different ways.
An air purifier works to clean the air by removing airborne contaminants. Air purifiers pull air through a series of internal filters that take out dust, bacteria, pet dander and allergens. Some air purifiers have HEPA filters, which are incredibly strong and utilize a material made with countless fibers woven together.
While you can purchase an air purifier that comes with an activated carbon filter to remove mold smells, this appliance doesn’t remove moisture or change the humidity of the home. An air purifier helps those suffering from allergies or asthma symptoms breathe easier.
A dehumidifier pulls moisture from the home and lowers the overall humidity level. If your home is maintaining a humidity level above 50%, your household could be exposed to dangerous levels of mold and mildew. A dehumidifier draws the moisture out of the air and collects it in a container inside the appliance.
Dehumidifiers don’t remove allergens or clean the air in the home. The appliance’s purpose is to lower the humidity level and reduce mold and mildew odors.
While both of these appliances greatly improve the safety of the home, they’re not interchangeable and have distinctly different abilities.
